Baldwin Filters Africa was established in South Africa in 1988 as a predominantly air filter manufacturing facility under the name of "Unifil."

In 1996 Baldwin Filters U.S. obtained a controlling interest
and the company began trading as Baldwin Filters SA. In 2006
the company became a wholly owned subsidiary of the U.S. parent company.

The head office, warehouse and production facility is located in Cape Town, with an additional distribution warehouse and sales office located in Johannesburg and a small satellite sales office in Durban.

Penetration of the South African market is achieved predominantly via a national network of independently owned distributors. Baldwin itself markets directly to OEs and major end users such as government entities and mining.

The South African operation also assumes responsibility for marketing and distribution into the African Continent. Currently Baldwin distributors are established and operating in Ghana, Nigeria, Angola, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, DRC, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Swaziland, Mozambique, Botswana, Djibouti and Ethiopia.
